About Us

Lasting change begins at the grassroots. At ESBN, we transform lives by championing equity, health, and sustainable development for a stronger Tanzania.

Organisation History, Mission &Vision

Empower Society Build the Nation (ESBN) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious, and non-profit organization committed to advancing social service and community development in Tanzania. Founded on February 18, 2006 by 15 visionary members and officially registered on November 5, 2010, ESBN empowers marginalized groups—especially women, children, elders, and youth—through impactful programs in advocacy, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.

Our Vision

A society where all individuals thrive socially and economically, free from poverty, poor health, and systemic exclusion.

Our Mission

To create sustainable change by:

  • Lobbying & Advocacy – Influencing policies for equitable resource distribution.
  • Awareness & Education – Empowering communities with health, rights, and economic knowledge.
  • Research & Innovation – Creating data-driven solutions for sustainable development.
  • Economic & Vocational Training – Enhancing skills and livelihoods.
  • Health Interventions – Reducing preventable deaths through medical camps, blood donation drives, and health education.

How We Work

ESBN operates under a member-based governance system with a General Assembly as the highest authority. Our day-to-day activities are led by an Executive Director and a professional team with expertise in community development, public health, and project management.

Our Impact: Tackling Tanzania’s Health Crisis

Tanzania faces serious child and maternal health challenges, including:

  • 45 deaths per 1,000 live births (UNICEF, 2023)
  • 27% of child deaths due to malaria
  • 30% child stunting and 4% wasting (TDHS, 2022)
  • 85% vaccination coverage (MoHCDGEC, 2023)
  • Critical blood shortages causing 24.5% of maternal deaths (Tanzania Blood Services, 2017)

ESBN’s Response:

  • 817 people treated via community medical camps
  • 100+ blood units collected in collaboration with health authorities
  • 10,000+ individuals educated on preventive health and maternal-child survival

Building a Healthier Future

Through grassroots mobilization, innovative programs, and advocacy, ESBN is creating lasting change—working toward a future where no child or mother dies from preventable causes.
